Peer Appraisal: Definition & Role in Performance Reviews

PEER APPRAISAL

Peer Appraisal

Peer appraisal is a performance evaluation where the person’s performance and contributions are evaluated by their peers, or colleagues who work alongside them in the organization. It is also known as peer assessment or 360-degree feedback. Peer appraisal, as opposed to typical performance reviews conducted primarily by supervisors or managers, includes input from personnel at the same organizational level. Peer appraisal, when done correctly, can contribute to a more complete picture of individual performance and assist continual improvement.
