QUEEN BEE SYNDROME
Queen Bee Syndrome
The condition in which women in positions of leadership or seniority exhibit hostile and unsupportive behavior toward their female subordinates is called Queen Bee Syndrome. This behavior is frequently motivated by a desire to remove themselves from other female coworkers, resulting in an unsupportive or unfriendly environment for female coworkers.
Organizations can implement the following strategies
- Encourage leaders to adopt inclusive leadership styles that support and empower all employees, irrespective of gender.
- Establish mentorship programs that facilitate positive relationships between women in leadership roles and their female subordinates
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration to break down competitive barriers and create a more cooperative and supportive work environment.
- Create awareness and training programs to educate employees about the negative impacts of Queen Bee Syndrome and promote a more inclusive workplace culture.
